Western Illinois book donation drive

Thank you so much to Western Illinois University’s College of Business and Technology (CBT) for their successful book drive .

The folks over there had an incredible spirit and were extremely helpful to our driver. They formed a chain and were able to pack up all of the books in an hour. It probably would’ve taken us all day and more without your volunteers.

We would like to make a special shout out to John Drea the associate dean of the College of Business and Technology. Without your hard work and perseverance this never would’ve happened.

University of Texas Book drive

Thank you very much to all that have donated books. The drive was an amazing success. It was one of our most successful drives to date. I wanted to give a special thanks to the Texas Economics Association for helping out. When they heard we were collecting books for Africa they jumped to the occasion.

According to the department of Economics news:

TEA volunteers walked the halls of the Economics department, urging professors to take a few minutes to clean out old textbooks and promising to return later to pick up the donations. Wearing their burnt orange Texas Economics t-shirts, the students hit the halls again a few days later to gather their solicited donations.

We really do appreciate the help and all your efforts will go a long way.

Donate books to new library in Kenya

Welcome to our new partner Twinkle Little Stars, Inc.. They run a program for the youth of rural Kenya, aimed at providing them an opportunity to lead a healthy life physically, emotionally and spiritually. They provide children with learning material, school supplies, nutrition and hope for the future.

We are currently collecting children’s books and coloring books to help fill out a new library in Kenya. If you have any of these books lying around you can drop them off at our warehouse in Skokie or arrange a local Chicago book pickup.

We are getting ready to run a book drive for the University of Illinois. If you would like to be a student partner with us on this drive sign up on our partner page.

We will be collecting books from students and faculty at the end of the semester. If you are interested in donating books fill out our donation form.

A majority of the books we collect will be sent to Africa. A small portion of the books will be sold raising money for shipping costs as well as your organization. This is a great opportunity to raise money for your organization, do volunteer work, and get valuable experience managing and organizing a worthy project.

Donate your books to help save the planet

A conservative estimate places the number of active landfills in the USA at around 3,000 – and there are over 10,000 “non-active” sites, as well. Along with other trash products, old and outdated books that are thrown away can wind up rotting for decades in these polluting environments.

To help decrease the need for landfill space, students and teachers can donate or recycle their textbooks. Because textbooks are often updated, old editions can quickly lose their value to students while still retaining the value inherent in their materials.

Because paper releases methane gas as it decays in a landfill , taking the opportunity to donate or recycle your books doesn’t just reduce the use of resources and chemicals – it also decreases the harmful gases that are released into the Earth’s atmosphere when paper books are thrown away. The best option for teachers and students who want to be planet-friendly with their old texts is to donate them to charities like ours.

Calling All Student Organizations!

Kill two birds with one stone by organizing a book drive on campus. A book drive is a meaningful community service project that helps bring new reading materials to local students and townspeople. In communities with limited resources, a book drive can provide important educational opportunities to groups with limited access to academic materials. A book drive can also be an excellent revenue stream for your organization. Sign up to be a bookdrive donation volunteer by collaborating with us to bring used books into new hands. As a bookdrive donation volunteer you will be enriching your community by broadening access to information and knowledge.

Donate Previous Editions of Textbooks

Recycle books

Every year, hundreds of teachers across the country are confronted with the question of what to do with out-of-date textbooks. In some cases, these books have been updated with slight corrections or new pieces of knowledge, but overall the updates are often unnecessary for those seeking a core understanding of the subject at hand.

In these cases, most often throw their textbooks away, or recycle them. The better alternative is to focus on reusing instead of recycling. Donate your textbooks to educational charities like our own or some others in your neighborhood. The American Library Association has a tremendous list of different organizations that accept book donations. If you are in the Chicago area we organize free pickups of books and we visit college campuses across the country running book drives.

Whether supporting learning at home or abroad, if you’re looking for a way to get rid of old books donate textbooks to educational institutions who are often striving to improve the world while being strapped for cash. By donating your used textbooks to educational charities, you can make a choice that helps support international learning.
